About the 1986 Congress

The Gascoigne-Pees Surrey Easter Chess Congress 1986 was held at the Central Library, St Nicholas Way, Sutton, Surrey, over Easter weekend: 28, 29, 30 and 31 March 1986.
The Frank Winter Memorial Open attracted 109 competitors and was won outright by D. J. King of Streatham with 6½/7. The Open also carried the S.C.C.U. Individual Championship prize.
The official sheet also records the Major, Main and Novice sections, a ladies prize, a best game prize notice, and a short report on the prize-giving and Prestels ChessSpot results service.
Notable point
The congress carried sponsor naming in 1986: the Gascoigne-Pees Surrey Easter Chess Congress.
